7 MOST POPULAR GHANAIAN TERMS

ghanaian words and slangs

Many people find it difficult to speak or write the Ghanaian Pidgin English language. That's why we've decided to create the most comprehensive list of Ghanaian words that actually get used.

Let us know what you think about this list by leaving your comment below!

APUU:

Apuu is very expressive and it simply means HELL NO! You don't really use it with elderly people. Just with your close friends and family.

CHALE!

Who on earth doesn't know CHALE?! If you're Ghanaian, or you have Ghanaian friends then it's impossible that you've never heard this word before. It's often used to greet friends, to call someone's attention in a conversation or simply as a filler word.

MASSA

Massa is another interesting one that often comes before a sentence that won't make you very happy lol. With women we tend to use madam instead and its a sarcastic way of saying boss.

ASEM OO

Asem ooo, this is often used when during a conversation we are talking about drama, or problems. If we are supposed to translate it then we would say OH DEAR!

HOT CAKE

If someone calls you hot cake, then trust me that you're highly respected. It simply means that you're not an easily accessible person from your the way you look to your status.

PRESSURE

If someone says you are giving them pressure it can only mean these two things: You're giving them life! As in that outfit or waist beads is giving them pressure, which would mean that they are loving it! Or simply that you are disturbing their peace of mind. Therefore context is an essential element to consider with this word!

ABEG

Please! That's exactly what it means and you can use it to apologize or literally cut someone off! The choice is yours

So yesss! Which one is definitely part of your vocabulary or you've heard of many times?!

With all the things I've seen in Ghana I can guarantee you mine is ASEM OOO ! 😂😂😂
